Let's face it. In today's world, it is absolutely necessary to go to college to make enough money to survive. For one thing, the cost of living is going up in the United States. The essential things in our every day lives are becoming more and more expensive every day. Having a college degree backing you up will definitely make a world of difference when it comes time for you to get out on your own. In the old days, getting into college was the hardest step towards a college education. Today, paying for college is the hardest step. Obviously there are lots of grants and federal aid for those who need it, but what about the average middle-class family? College is expensive, no matter who you are; but I find it upsetting that there isn't more federal aid for the middle-class family. The federal government takes into consideration your family's income, how many children are in your family, whether or not your parents are married, your race, and more. Although some of these are rather important in determining who really needs help paying for college, don't you think they should broaden the search a little? I have spoken with college-cost estimator companies as well as financial-aid companies, and as soon as they hear my family's income, they immediately tell me that I qualify for little or no federal grants. They didn't take time to realize that my parents have three children, 2 of which are in college, and that I make good grades and am involved in many clubs and activities at school and in my community. Although I am blessed to have a roof over my head and food on my table, my family still cannot afford to pay for my college. I am expected to pay it myself. This means I have to take out high-interest loans and pay them back in time. It would be nice to be recognized academically and socially, and for the federal government to take EVERYTHING into consideration instead of cancelling me out as soon as they hear my family's income..Middle-class citizens, do you feel my pain?

I am a senior in the running start program in Washington State. It is a very good program because my school pays the tuition for me to go to a public college while i am a senior. I am currently on the College Council and the president of the college told us that tuition is going to be going up nationwide AGAIN!!Being a student representative I was very aggravated that this will be affecting me next year when i am kicked out into the real world. I will be the first to go to college in my family and we are considered middle class. My parents make enough money to pay bills and save some money, but they wont be able to help pay with my college. So i am in the same boat, all because of the financial aid and federal grants by not looking into the details of who is applying. And i am wanting to go to medical school.
The government needs to figure something out to help us middle classers out.
but that smiley just cracked me up, I'm laughing my head off.
sorry...
