At my School,we are having to now do the Senior project,Now for those of you who do not know me,I come from a different country, and I am outraged that they are making us pass a senior project. Explain to me why Seniors would actually need to do this stuff?
We work and work and work and work...and they never relent and stop giving us work to do. Its Like they own us,and Own our freedom which is not right in any form or reason. Its like...they are trying to keep us in school and to be all perfect and such with our projects. They say this is the land of the free and that this is a good country.Well I have no experience if it truly is a good country or not.I meet people everyday at school who are rude to me.and judge me,so until I do believe its a lovely country my thoughts are not going to be so happy and cheerful.
The only real experience I have had,is of meeting my boyfriend who is from the states. He's amazing, but OK back to what I had originally thought of doing a blog on.
I am a Senior this year, and apparently on a website, they say "All freshmen who enrolled in a North Carolina high school this academic year will be required to complete a senior project before they can graduate in 2010." (http://www.newsobserver.com/102/story/530791.html)
Ok well I am not a freshman. I do not believe they should make us Seniors do this because,It was never meant for us.
Plus they never told us,until recently that we had to do a Senior Project. I am not making a big deal but it would be interesting to see the feedback I get.
Students are already loaded down at my school with work, and Honors work.
I am in honors classes and I do not want that much work.
That should tell you something. That NC is strict on their bloody project.
I do understand they want people to graduate, but they shouldn't force us to do this. I know you can't do everything you want. But At the moment,I am doing something,I didn't even want to even do.It totally bores me to my core.
I am doing Cross Stitching.
But listen, then for our final grade in the class,we do a power point. o.O on the project that we covered.

College is ALL projects. You will have a ton of research, paper writing, and presenting to do in college. This Senior Project is going to help you immensely.
But I have a definite pro-high expectations bias.

The site that you gave must be dated back a few years, because people who will graduate in 2010 are now Juniors.
I followed an international curriculum in high school, and I had to do a senior project, in addition to the multitude of projects that I had to do for each of my classes (those included a math portfolio, a world lit paper, a lab portfolio for biology, etc), plus a wide variety of activities and community service. I'm not entirely sure why you're complaining about it... at least you get a nice, broad range of things to choose to do for your project. I could've never gotten away with doing cross-stitching for my senior project (though that would've been cool).
Like ediblewoman says, they're just trying to prepare you for college. The workload will be intense, and you will have a lot of projects, even if they are only papers.

I remember freaking out over my senior project, but that was just nerves and wondering if I could finish it by the due date. I think you're suffering from this stress as well.
Like the wise bloggers before me said, high school is preparing you for college and all of that work. There have been times when I've got three major projects, a paper or two, and some serious reading to get finished within a short time period. It's not all parties and drunken idiots. Unless you're into that thing.
And besides, don't you want to challenge yourself? When you finish you'll be so pleased with yourself, you may even find that the hard work was worth it.

Nope actually a recent website, and to be honest if it was something I actually wanted to do...Like with other languages,I'd have no project with doing it. Its the whole bit of doing something I have no idea about or anything. I am doing a project on Cross Stitch which is a completely boring bit to myself.
I doubt I'd ever ever in a million years become fascinated with Cross Stitch. Come on be real people,Do any of you seriously and honestly know the first thing about Cross Stitching?
and our school system is really strict. Our system is swearing this and that saying that if we do not pass the Senior Project, then we will not graduate,I think its rather a bad way to force students to do it. They are saying if we do not do it correctly, then you will not pass, and will have to be a senior next year,Just on if you fail the senior project, but then answer me this,if they do that, then shouldn't they make all the seniors do it. They have one teacher actually doing it. which is my teacher. She's not a good teacher because she always argues with all the people in the class even when we aren't doing anything wrong.

I wouldn't exactly call January 2007, almost two years ago, 'recent', but that's just me. Why can't you do the project on something like other languages or cultures? I'm sure you can find someone in your community to 'shadow' to help you do the presentation. And, as a matter of fact, I do know a great deal about cross stitching. I have completed 3 small projects, and several bookmarks (I gave out bookmarks to my friends as Christmas presents a few years ago). I am currently working on two large projects (larger than the size of an 8 x 10 picture). I just tend not to have time to work on them, because it isn't a particular priority of mine.
If you have problems with your teacher, go talk to the administration about her. I had a horrible teacher in middle school, and she had so many complaints against her that she got fired at the end of the year. If you just sit back and let it happen, nothing's going to change.
Also... news flash... most colleges have senior exams as well. My university had a different curriculum for each major. As a biology major, I had to take a 1 credit class and give two 15-minute presentations on some biological issue (I chose diabetes and exercise) that had been covered in a journal article. My friend, as a chemistry major, had to take two 1-credit classes, and she had to give a 30 minute lecture on some chemistry topic. Another friend, as an English major, has to read a whole bunch of books, then do a comprehensive exam on those books. If any of us didn't pass the class, we weren't permitted to get our degrees.
