Maybe it was only because I was listening today and not blocking him out. Whatever it was I think I finally understood him today. Unlike any other boring rant he puts on in philosophy, today I listened and understood his personal views on the word religion. His definition: a set up structure. He claims this is NOT what it is supposed to be. He calls it a relationship with God. I think that's where he caught me. It's not about how many times you go to church or which lady wears the biggest hat [[which is how it is at most black churches I've attended]]. It's about the personal, deep, and meaningful relationship you share with your savior. His view is that there should be no rules for worship and I agree with him. There is no reason why you should have to worry about walking into church in jeans and a t-shirt because all of the older people in the church will look at you strangely and gossip behind your backs. Clearly they have never heard of come as you are. So I think I will have to agree with him on this point, but perhaps not as fervently. Religion is a word put out there to symbolize structure and stability AND perhaps is a ploy to brainwash us all !! However, I still maintain that not all victims of religion are without faith or without a relationship with their savior. I just wonder how those who practice religion and not relationships will fair when we move on from this world.
