One might think we live in an age where discrimination has been cut to a bare minimum, as far as addressing those goes. Gender discrimination, racism, and discrimination towards the disabled and less fortunate have been acknowledged, dealt with, and handled. The mentally handicapped, homeless, and foreign men and women are even given jobs. Yes, one might definitely think that we live in a time where peaceful equality is at its best, but why can't an abnormal, average intelligence, and respectful teenage girl, be accepted? One would think that if we can accept the poor, disabled, foreign, and homeless society regardless of race, religion, or gender, accepting a person who just chooses to dress and look differently would be easy. As have now discovered that such is not the case. Discrimination towards teenagers, especially the one who chose to dress differently, is a problem. It's a problem that goes very often unaddressed in today's society! We use stereotypes in part because its so hard to take in all of the complicated information about other people in the world. Its difficult to spend the amount of time necessary to understand why or in what ways people behave. So, instead, we learn early in our lives to accept stereotypes of groups, or individuals.
