Okay people, get ready because you're going to hear a non-voter complain. This is something that I can't help. It's been floating in my mind, nagging my brain, and just causes me to question the level of intellect a human being can actually achieve. What I'm talking about is this term "Bush Era".
Now, let's, for just a little moment, forget about all the political tension that's been on rise lately because I'm not really here to talk about the election, the issue of racial fervor in the air, or the possibilities of a dark and light future. No, what I want to talk about is this term "Bush Era" and what it means.
Of course, what it means is the past eight years under "Bush regime", which is another stupid term, but I won't get into that right now. Here's my problem with the Bush Era term, specifically: it defines eight years of my life, probably even my generation, as being controlled by a president of the United States.
Fuck that.
See, this is what pisses me off the most about politics: we either are too much for our country, blind by it, hate it, see only bad, see only war, see only corruption, etc. Both sides act nothing short of two three year-olds fighting over a toy, and I just want to say, right now, that I am sick of it.
You want to know what I think about this so-called Bush Era? Well, if you don't, stop reading now. Here's what I think: these past eight years have been the most truthful and honest about what is deemed to be American, and I love that.
No, this doesn't mean I agree with corrupt politics (I do agree all politics are corrupt), and certainly doesn't mean I hold Bush to high standards. In fact, I hold no one up to high standards.
Why?
One simple, ultimate truth: Nothing on this planet is perfect.
People, think about all the complications it comes to living here: hunger, health, breathing, dying, etc. As human beings, we come with different view points and different modes of expression. All of us utilize ideology, which is something that is very dangerous when applied to real life, no matter what it is.
Don't believe me? Read history for once, and read the ideals that were in place. Politics, science, religion, and anything else has an ideology that ultimately does not work. Look at communism, capitalism, etc. Every single time we try to make things work on a massive scale it doesn't work, and it even doesn't work on a minimal scale.
This world is complicated. Nothing is going to change that. It is unrealistic to believe that we'll all get along. It's unrealistic to believe something holds the answers. It's even unrealistic to believe every person should be humble, or do this or that, or whatever. It's even more unrealistic if you believe every word I say, or if I expect you to agree with me.
So, in my opinion, it is very unrealistic to define eight years as an era. Here's a more realistic era: America for the past hundred years, or more. Why just look at America though? Europe certainly isn't without blame either in this weird global trend.
Somehow, everyone obtains this misconception that if we put all our heads together, if we all strive to help each other, if we all share, or whatever else, all problems will go away. Well, let's pin point certain times in history when everyone agreed to think the same way. Hmmm... funny thing, but it seems every time we tried to think the same way, and even believed the same thing, it involved politics, religion, and/or science, but this could just be me. Seems to me we all get greedy at some point. Seems to me, we all can't and are unable to believe this same thing, and we are equally unable to get along with every single person on this planet. Also, it seems that if we don't like someone, they become evil.
I'm not really trying to get anyone to understand some great epiphany, though. I just wanted express something I'm not keen to expressing because it wastes too much breath I could spend living my own life. I'm really just tired of it all. I'm tired of complications and conflict as well. It's okay to be tired, it's okay to be angry, no matter who you are. We all have a different way of seeing things. Some of us force things on others, some of us kill, and some of us will do horrible things, even "evil" (which may be evil) things. They are most certainly not right, nor are they good, nor do I condone acts of violence or discrimination or war. Realistically speaking, though, these things can't change. No law is going to change people, it never has.
Here's what I do believe though. Our freedom is set by how we define it, that is both the wonderful thing about it and the problem with it. Me, I can only find what my freedom is not defined by, and I'm still looking for what is defined by my freedom. Also, I believe this world is contradictory: nothing is one thing or another, and nothing is what it seems to be. So, whatever one may define their freedom by, I hope you all live that freedom fully.
