Hello Again Ladies and Gents. Allow me to introduce what I will be babbling about now: the City vs the Suburbs.
I've lived in the great city of Chicago during the first year of my life. My parents always wanted my brother and I to have quality education so they sent us to a private Catholic school. But as my bro and I started to reach that wonderful age where we would go from being the big 8th graders on campus to the freshmen at the bottom of totem, my parents began to realize how much it was going to cost for us to have to go to a private high school in the city. The public high schools around us were out of the question. So my parents decided to look at houses in the suburbs, where the public high schools were good. And finally, one fateful day, they found this amazing housing development where our house was going to be build (*please note that I meant that last sentence to be said with sarcasm).
I was nice at first. Lots of space to run around in. Nice houses. Clean air. A night sky that is actually dark and not all washed out from too many lights.
But now, whenever I go to the city, I have this knot in my stomach. I know deep down that me and the city were never supposed to part ways with each other and that we will be permanently reunited someday.

where was I?....oh yes city vs the big bad burbs.
Well, I guess I'll start comparing and contrasting.
The City.
THE PROS
Every big city has at least one thing in common: LOTS OF PEOPLE.
I don't know about you, but sometimes I like having many people around. I like to write and, someday, I hope to write something of importance. In order to write, I need inspiration. The city is the perfect place for me because people are my inspiration. Have you ever just "people watched"? Well, I do.
The other good thing about big cities is that you don't have as much use for a car. I'm not sure how many of you are aware of this, but there are these amazing transportation devices that are practically free.....YOUR FEET. I know, I know, what a radical, revolutionary idea. Maybe I'll patent them. Anyhow, with gas prices the way the have been (and yes I KNOW that gas prices are going down, but they're bound to go back up) who wants a car. In some cities, they have these things where you rent are car for like a few hours if you need to buy lots of groceries or something. That way you don't have to buy a car and you don't have to spend money on gas.
Also in cities you have more choices on food and shopping and stuff to do.
THE CONS
Rental apartments cost mucho $$$$
Everyday items cost mucho $$$$$
You have to work around a public transportation schedule. I doesn't work around you.
The Burbs
THE PROS
cleaner environment
more space (at least for now until all of the developers come in and start bulldozing all of the wildlife)
better schools (although its debatable)
more privacy
THE CONS
Boredom
have to own a car
gas
Personally, if I had to choose one over the other I would choose the city because there’s more going on there and, although the cost of living is higher, its a price I'm willing to pay. I've lived the suburb life for a while and its just gotten to be to bland for me. Besides, with all the developers building their new apartment complexes and mini malls around here its getting to be just like a mini city.....except for not cool.

and I LIKE it!

I know exactly what you are talking about. I recently moved to Chicago and I grew up in the suburbs. I guess one more pro for city/con for suburbs would be that for the most part people in the suburbs try to be the same, or if they arn't trying, they just are! People in the city have their own style, and care less about what other people think.
I personally feel that living in the city is more private. No body is waiting to gossip about you because they really couldn't care less. The suburb I came from prided itself in knowing everything about everyone.
I also love people watching, especially in places like malls, public transportation, grocery stores, and restaurants. It is an excellent way to pass time!
