Remember how a few years ago Immigration was a hot button issue... Not anymore.
You know the economy is bad when the illegal immigrants go home! Since the decline in manufactured homes, buildings, and well, just about everything else, more and more people are loosing their full-time jobs to have them replaced with nothing. In an article in the NYT today, they talked about how the immigrants are better off going home. Has it really gotten that bad? Yes. Frankly its disturbing. Our dollar is weakening, millions of immigrants that spent fortunes to have the 'American Dream' are now suffering worse than ever before. For those of you that could care less about immigrants, look at it this way. The cheapest labor available isn't in DEMAND. Don't think that all the jobs are going to the (relatively) expensive americans... It's doesn't exist. That should scare you... it's like there's a huge shoe sale at macy's but no one cares. Why? Well, continuing with the metaphor, shoppers have no use for shoes, they have nothing that they could do with shoes, so the shoes just sit there... and the shoes that aren't on sale have absolutely no appeal, because if people wanted shoes, they would get the cheap shoes.. Does that make sense?
But don't get me wrong, I'm not even beginning to imply that illegal immigrants are on the same as a specialized worker... But in general, the economy is slowing and there's less demand for everything. All you people that are excited about the price of gas... and I'm not saying you shouldn't be... but the price is lower for reasons that aren't the best. We haven't changed the supply by drilling off-shore, we haven't lowered the demand by introducing hybrid cars and different forms of fuels, the demand is lower because less merchandise is being shipped, less planes are flying, less people are driving, and less is getting manufactured.
But I don't want to be a sour-puss. I suppose the upside is that all the people that HATE immigrants will be satisfied with them leaving the country. The cost of them coming here isn't worth it anymore. And our government is also trying it's darnedest, along with the rest of the world, to pull the economy up by it's boots. And I would honestly recommend if you have some time to buy some stock in your favorite company. (another post I know) The next president will obviously help pull us out of this, and we know are even more aware of how globalized our markets are... Oh, and traveling overseas won't be as bad anymore because our dollar is strengthening against the euro, which is also good. So yeah. I don't want to be like the rest of the media that shoves fear and despair down your throats. The economy will pick up, and meanwhile just take a big look around and remember what your feeling and thinking. This is history being made, and the years following this will also go down in the books. You'll be famous!
