Religion defines a person's beliefs about the nature of reality and its origin. Large numbers of people share similar beliefs preached by large religions such as Christianity, Islam, and others. Some of these religions have a book that is at the core of the religion. The Quran, and the Bible are two examples of this. These books dictate a complete way of life, so that human beings may live in peace with each other. I believe this was the goal of the prophets that preached these religions, along with other intellectuals and social activists - to achieve peace on Earth. All throughout the documented history, human civilization has been plagued with war and violence. We are yet to find a way of life where we live peacefully with one another.
Religions are just that, instruments that may help us attain peace on Earth. One must gather this knowledge and this message from all religions. As one studies each religion, he sees this picture unfolding before him. He sees the various social elements depicted in these religions, he observes the language used to describe the nature of various possible actions. Only a man devoid of much independent thought will rely strictly on these religions to proclaim him a good man and thus one deserving of an entrance to heaven. This man must realize that this heaven may be found on Earth, if the message is understood.
Human beings must become enlightened in this way, and understand the philosophy of religion. We must not be afraid of not being accepted. We must accept ourselves, and live our own life. We must appreciate the uniqueness that is each human person. We must learn to recognize the freedom of thought in each person, and his capability to recognize God in his own way. What is more, we must first accept the message of peace that is preached through religions.
