Hollywood, Please Be More Creative!

The past few years Hollywood has turned out dud after dud. It's almost as if the creativity has fled the holds of the creators, maybe the writer's muse has moved beyond screenplays. The problem is the movies are not as great.

The screenplays haven't been entirely bad, for instance, Juno. A great movie for teens because its easy to relate to, but honestly its not even really acting. Ellen Page is just being herself, and how much fun is it to watch someone be themselves? In this case, a lot. This movie was successful because it was an original concept, but some movies aren't so lucky. Napoleon Dynamite. Possibly one of the stupidest movies I have ever seen, but successful because of its orginality. Movies that fail, in my mind, are movies that are created from books, video games or even old movies. What happened to the originality?

In some cases, turning a book into a movie is a good idea. Lord of the Rings and Star Wars was a good idea, but the small books whose purpose ends up being lost in the making of the movie...maybe not so great. There is no point in creating a movie from a book when there are tons of other ideas just waiting to be formed. Brokeback Mountain was only a short story, a few pages long, and yet it was made into a movie. Twilight, a book about a vampire, was written in the view of one teenage girl, it essentially was her thoughts with not so much dialogue. Yet it is a movie.

Max Payne. I hope its a good movie, because the game is pretty awesome. To destroy that essence would not be a good idea, so many people are part of the video game world there would be many outraged people. (There are many other video games turned into movies, but I was always a kiddie video gamer, so I don't have much experience in this area).

What really gets me, is remaking old movies. The classics. Footloose is being remade with Zac Efron. Oh please. Why can't he do his own movies? First Hairspray, Footloose, and a rumor of him playing Danny Zuko in Grease. Other movies that are being remade, or have been, King Kong, Freaky Friday, Stepford Wives, or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I understand some movies are remade because of different artistic approaches, but it is almost as if Hollywood is only producing movies that did not require the sweat and blood the earlier movies seemed to have.

Fortunately, the bad spell seems to be ending. With the exception of certain movies, a few have caught my attention for their seemingly interesting plot and development. Eagle Eye, Body of Lies and even Quarantine are a few; on the other hand there is W., Sex Drive and Beverly Hills Chihuahua (which seems more like a children's parody than an actual movie). Hopefully the seemingly good movies will be actually good, as opposed to another good preview for an awful movie. Come on Hollyood, you can do it.

Ha Ha, Hollywood is full of dunderheads. They are too busy sticky their nose into politics thinking we care about what their opinion is? I only care if they can entertain me, not about their out of touch political views. Those jokers need to stick to making movies. What does Madonna know about having to work full time, sometimes two jobs, raise kids and pray you make ends meet all the while praying your kids do not listen to the trampy singer.
