Travel Rules - and sweetness follows

When I travel, I have two rules. They’re very simple, and they increase the likelihood of adventure. Before I explain them, let me clarify, dear reader, these rules are good for ME. By no means am I meaning to suggest that anyone else should espouse them.

My first rule: Do NOT eat anywhere I can eat at home.
My second rule: Do NOT eat at the same place twice.

These rules both ensure that I will try things that are specific to where I’m visiting, and kind of get me into local flavor! That’s the whole reason that I’ve gone in the first place! It also helps me stay out of a rut. I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a foodie, but when something tastes good, it’s a celebration. And distinctive flavors add such a memory for my trip.

While visiting Oxford, I was spending an afternoon with some UK natives. After punting down the rainy Thames, we stopped in a restaurant to order what they called “Cream Tea.” I guess that this is the tea and scones that we talk about here in the US? I ordered Rose Leaf tea (oh, it smelled heavenly!) and scones. When our food was delivered, my companions slathering the smooth yellow substance liberally over each half. I don’t care for butter, so I wasn’t going to try it. Then I thought to myself, Sahara, you’re on the road – try new things! I sampled a small bit of it and learned how delicious and sweet it was! I soon found myself scraping the side of my little tub to ensure that I didn’t miss any! It was QUITE delicious, and I’ve dreamt about it ever since!

I am the same way when i travel, but i usually tend to order safe food( nothing too exotic) because i have so many food allergies.
but it is always an adventure when i discover a new type of food that i would never imagine would be good like raw ham!!

Oooh! Good call, Keanan! When your in places where the food might not, ahem, agree with you according to the spice or oil content - safer is better! You are so right!
