the 2nd amendment.

The 2nd amendment seems to make its way into the news more and more each election year. Sometimes i question if people understand why that amendment was created in the first place. Our great nation was once began as a small, weak one, believe it or not. Our founding father's created this amendment in order to be able to quickly establish a militia in case of war or foreign take over efforts. They believed that every American had the right to bear arms in order to protect themselves and their property. What we fail to remember when considering this amendment is that back then the military and centralized law enforcement ceased to exist. Now, in present time...we have the military, the FBI, the centralized law enforcement officers, etc., our need for guns is limited. If no one had guns, with the exception of those people i just mentioned, wouldn't the counrty be a lot safer? I know that will never happen, but i think we need to limit the number of guns on our nation's streets somehow. Guns should never find their way into the hands of the mentally ill, under aged or convicted felons that have access to them now. Gun control is totally needed and should be implemented rapidly.

If we take away the ability to own a gun, we take away part of a person's ability and right to protect themselves. While in a perfect world, the mentally ill, children, and felons would not be able to access guns, we don't live in a perfect world. If we take away the ability for a normal person to buy a gun (hunting anyone?), we also take away part of their ability to protect themselves, because unfortunately, those people who have plans to harm do not usually obtain their weapons and guns legally. The black market for guns will increase dramatically, and at that point, the average person will not be able to be equally armed, in an attempt to protect themselves. They will be without a gun, because they can't obtain one legally, and the person causing harm will have a gun that is obtained illegally on the black market. That doesn't sound to me like it would make for a fair fight. While we do have law enforcement officers whose job it is to protect and serve, they cannot be everywhere at once. I do not believe that banning guns will help our crime situation at all. In fact, it may cause it to increase, because the criminals will know that they are the only ones with guns.

On another thought process, hunters would be very bothered by this! No guns means that the biggest hunting season of the year (deer hunting with guns) would no longer be legal. They'd have to use a bow and arrow, which is much much more difficult and far more impractical.
