When I think of a fulfilling life, my ideas tend to differ from the majority of society. Our magazines and celebrities tell us all we need to know about how not to be happy, but pose it in such a way that we are misled to think it is happiness.
For example, many girls feel pressured about their weight because of the models they feel they need to live up to. They feel like being stick thin is their road to happiness. This doesn't make them happy...instead, this makes them anxious and sick. Some even die. Another thing the magazines shoot at us is how to have sex, how to get sex, and the like. Many lost teenagers go looking for love in all the wrong places, and most of them turn to sex for love. However, going from boy/girl friend to boy/girl friend, they realize that these are all just flings that don't last and leave them empty inside. Some girls get pregnant. Often times, this doesn't bring them joy; rather it brings them fear and a need for escape. Many times, they turn to abortion for a way out. Money and power are two other big things that everybody wants. However, even those with money and power don't bring people happiness. Broken marriages, difficulties, false rumors, etc controls the lives of those of note in our society.
But I want something different. I want to know that I'm beautiful because of who I am, not what I look like. I want to be respected as a child of God, or at least as one in a 6.6 billion. I don't want to be viewed as a sex object some guy can play with until he gets bored with me. I want to be respected for the things that matter. I want (to paraphrase Anne from "Anne of Green Gables") one suitor who's in his right mind rather than a string of suitors madly in love with my body. I want one man to look at me and think to himself "I love her and want to be with her til the day I die." I want to live my life knowing that I've done good rather than I've made a ton of money and have a ton of power. I have a different dream than most, but I think I'm luckier than most for having my dreams.

You must look at the world as the world, not america. keep in mind that other cultures have different values which to not involve Aesthetics or economic success.
and as for you i congradulate. it takes a hard step to realize the true price of happiness
Well, I'm speaking of America specifically, as I'm not familiar of the trends of teenage girls in other countries.
Thanks :)

I agree with your views completely! We can't look to things that will fall away, and are extremely temporary to fill that longing to be accepted and loved. We need to hold ourselves for someone worth loving, and we need to view ourselves as amazing, regardless of what the world may be telling us.
AMEN!!!
