Graduation is coming up, and I could not be happier! But what does it really mean to graduate in 2009? It is not something to look forward to. The class of '09 is the first class to graduate in a recession since the class of '82. This will have serious repercussions for our futures. With a weak economy and failing businesses, it will be extremely difficult to receive a first chance on getting our independent lives started. We will not be able to get a car or housing loan. How can we be assured we will even be able to receive a student loan? how can the young people of this country hold up the responsibility of securing this country’s future if there is a chance we would be able to receive a sufficient education? as exciting as it is to go out into the world after graduation and try to make it on my own; I’m not confident on whether or not I will truly be able to make it on my own. While I know I will always have the support of my parents, some kids are not as fortunate. Where does that leave them?
How will America secure the educaion of its youth?
Good luck class of ‘09
What it Means to Graduate in '09

I'm one of the lucky class of "09 that's gradutating, too, and I agree. I'm worried.
First of all, there's going to be a mad rush for college this year. Everyone is afraid that they won't be able to get a job after graduation because, hey, what jobs are there to get? So, that option's off the table.
And what about the credit crunch? Car loans and home loans I think we can deal with (it's called living on campus or with family and walking or carpooling or something). But student loans? I agree, it's going to be interesting to see that.
Things are going to get really competitive. I think the problem is we're starting to see that everyone's hoping maybe they can get a scholarship or else they feel like they don't even have a chance. This means the standards for college entry will be rising soon, I guarantee it.
Let's just hope that I have a high enough GPA when this is over that I can even get into college.
