Fast Food Nation : The Dark Side of the All-American Meal
This semester in my AP language class we have to read and analyze Fast food Nation by Eric Scholsser. When I saw this title on my syllabus , I wondered why in heavens name are we reading this? Mind you that we have already read
The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass , An American Slave , Written by Himself by Frederick Douglass and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseni. In both books we have been going through different rhetorical choices that the author uses to convey his message , or the overall story. But I still couldn't grasp the fact that we were reading a documentary of facts , that was very evident. America is fat.
Whether you want to admit or not , America is the most fattest , laziest , un-motivated continent out of the big seven. This is in no way shape of form disrespecting you as a person , just a small reality check.
In the introduction , I recall reading of a research inside of a mountain. They scientist inside rarely had time to cook and take care of themselves , like they usually would at home. They would have the red white and blue box of dominoes delivered past the no tresspassing signs , just for a little snack. The Author begins to protray a scenario , that if a catasrophic event happened at that mountain and the people after us came and examined the remains at the aftermath. Would they recognize all the hard work gone into the experiements or will they be able to count numerous boxes of pizza at their feet? Would they see America as the land of milk and honey or of grease and chesse?
The process that fast food goes through today is even more horrifying from unclean gut table to e.coli sweeping the nation.
