So I have been a vegetarian for one full week. It is really start to drain on me. It isn't that I have a burning desire to eat meat, although a pepperoni pizza does sound really good right now, but I am so tired of the repetitiveness. All of my meals are beginning to be the same. Being a vegetarian and eating at a college cafeteria do not mix. They change the food everyday, but they change the entree, which almost always features meat. If you would like to catch up, you can read about the premiss of my challenge here, or you can read about my first four days as a vegetarian here.
Here is my menu for days 5 - 7, as you can see it starts to be the same things:
Day 5 โ 10/10/08
Lunch: 2 slices of veggie pizza, salad, an apple, 2 peanut butter cookies
Dinner: Spaghetti with marinara sauce, Captain Crunch, Cookies and Cream ice cream
Snack: Chocolate, bag of pretzels, peach yogurt
Day 6 โ 10/11/08
Lunch: Biscuit with gravy, scrambled eggs, rice, corn, poppy seed muffin
Dinner: Cornbread, roll with honey, fried okra, mashed potatoes, broccoli, black eyed peas, stuffing
Snack: Banana nut muffin, granola bars
Day 7 โ 10/12/08
Lunch: Biscuit with gravy, French toast, scrambled eggs, cinnamon roll, orange juice
Dinner: Spinach salad, peas and carrots, broccoli, lasagna, cinnamon twist cereal, slice of yellow cake
Now I have to be honest, the lasagana I ate today did have meat in it, but I was under the impression it did not. After eating the first bite, and realizing there was meat I scraped everything off the noodles and just ate them, althuhght I can't be 100% sure I didn't eat anymore meat. Also the black eyed peas were cooked with chuncks of ham, but I did not eat any of the ham.
I do not know how I am going to make it through this week without eating meat. I will try my best, but feel that I am going to breakdown one day and eat a hamburger. Again it isn't the lack of meat that is getting to me, it is the lack of variety.

And that is why I'm glad I'm at a college which caters to all lifestyles. There is not only a plethora of vegetarian offerings, but there is an entire food station dedicated to vegans. I take it from the title of this blog that you're only planning on keeping with vegetarianism for two weeks. Trust me when I say that it takes longer than that to learn how to work your way around a menu. However, I applaud your effort! I hope you have better luck finding some variety during the next week!
And that's comin' at ya' from yer local redneck hippie.

Ooh, ooh, pick me, pick me!!!
That is the same reason I gave up vegetarianism. I noticed right away how few options were offered in my cafeteria. I also didn't have a whole lot of choices when I went to subway, since my favorite sandwiches contain chicken.
