The country of Nepal named a 3 year old girl a living goddess! This may sound great, but the child was taken from her parent s and placed into a dark room with heads of dead animals. The girl could not show any fear. She also had to have a perfect face with no scars and perfect hair and teeth. She will be worshipped untill she hits puberty. At that time a new two to four year old girl will be chosen. Talk about crazy! Glad I don't live there! Thier children have no protection from this and niether do thier parents. Can you imagine having your child taken from you and put through this? Then you would probably have no connection with her while she is the goddess. Only in that country, maybe some parents find this a proud and signifigant thing for them? I am glad to live in America, where we have personal freedom for ourselves and our loved ones! How many of you feel this to be a horrific act? How many of you feel this is just a practice of the country and feel o.k. by this? I will be interested in the spiritual and religious aspect.Even though I feel this is a crazy thing, I can also see thier side of the culture.

I definitely agree! I was also surprised by the announcement of a "goddess" and this isn't the first time it's happened before. Most goddesses come out traumatized and have trouble assimilating back into the mainstream culture and society.
It's a cultural difference. It's not really deviant behavior over there. And yes, the parents are probably proud of their daughter. It's a big deal over there.
I imagine the parents are as honored as they are hurt. I think I watched a special on this, I think it's a series called "Taboo" that floats around on Discovery or another like channel. I would imagine it's near impossible to integrate them back into normal society after living by themselves all of those years, with no friends and no other children to socialize with.
