Legal Weed?

As a California resident, I often here talk of the government legalizing marijuana. In the state of California, it is actually LEGAL to grow and smoke weed for medical purposes. I am a senior in high school, and daily see the affects of what weed does do people my age. I have never talked to an elder that has AGREED with me when I stated that marijuana should be in fact legal in the United States. I strongly believe in the quote that "Everything happens for a reason" and believe that weed was put on this earth for a reason.
I am also of Christian faith, so i normally come in contact with people from my church, and have never talked to one of them about the legal use of marijuana, simply because I am afraid of being judged by them. The use of marijuana for some people helps remove the pain from a terminal illness, and for others it simply allows them to let their mind wander into another dimension where there are no crimes, murders, violence, and negative feelings. If weed could be legalized and taxed in the United States, the positive outcomes of doing so could be endless. Our nation could be debt-free in a matter of years, there would be no more killings over drug-smuggling, and the terminally ill could die peaceful deaths instead of lond and painful ones.
I am in no case a pothead or chronic marijuana smoker, but instead a student that has a broad view of the world, and thinks it is about time we change some things. Legalize it.

Why do so many older generations disapprove of legalization? I think it is probably becuase older generations are more prone to be prejudice and racist. they matured in an environment where they were taught to internalized values such as hatred towards another group. When many poeple think of weed some may think the standard hippie, but i see Hispanics and African Americans selling weed to white people in nice cars.
People want to cut their incomes and lower their status to retain white dominant group.

I agree that we should legalized. it would cut crime, tax payers money, and open busisness opportunities. And perhaps get rid of some prejudice

That one, weed isn't dangerous. Tobacco is far more deadly, yet it is still legal in the United States. Also, i hate to say it but it doesn't really matter what the government makes illegal. Look at history, the Prohibition was a miserable failure and today we see the same results with every illegal drug. I could walk out of my house and get weed, speed, or acid within half an hour - all illegal, but present all the same. Making drugs illegal only creates a higher demand, which allows dealers to make more profit. If people want a drug they're going to get it regardless of whether it's illegal or not.
