seeing without SEEing

This world is never quiet, never silent, always moving.
Car horns, airplanes, screaming, bombs ripping limb from limb while sweaty men in business suits panic and shout while their stock markets plummet.
Everything crammed into your ears; music, thoughts, ideas, subliminal messaging. There's no where you can escape to. The library? That's full of prospective college students stuffing their brains with useless facts to help them get 1 more point on the ACT, 1 more point that will get them one step closer to being trapped in the world. Your home? Full of shouting children or resounding silence, until you snap and flee back into chaos.
Shoved into your ears are headphones as you take your daily walk to fight the epidemic of obesity (of course not for your own enjoyment), and you are oblivious to the world for what it IS. Paths are paved and small, surrounded by man-planted trees on one side and looming buildings on the other.
There is no peace in this world.
Yet the birds still sing, children still laugh, trickling waterfalls stil sound the same; only surrounded by the World as it rushes into a traffic jam with five minutes left to get back to prison to earn minimum wage and pretend to enjoy it. Life ends, life begins, cycle after cycle of unmarred ignorance.
Shutting the door is no option, the World locked in its room in a teenage tantrum will NOT solve The Problem. Planting two fingers in its ears won't do a thing for the starving little brother waiting hopefully outside. Pull those fingers out and listen!
