Not even a "necessary evil." Just necessary.

Why would a woman choose to have an abortion? Financial problems? No stable father figure? Too young to have a baby? Maybe she just doesn't want children? Conservatives might say "Don't have sex in the first place if you don't want a child!" but this is the real world, honey, and whether someone likes it or not, that's not how the real world works.

Imagine if every child ever born was 100% wanted, and everyone in charge of the child's upbringing was good, ready, and waiting for the baby to come out so they could give it a good home. If this truly happened to every child, and only people that wanted children gave birth, our world would change dramatically.

The potential reasons I listed for a mother wishing to have an abortion, coincidentally, are some of the largest factors, statistically, that deal with people becoming criminals: growing up in a low-income household, having a mother but no father, and having a teenage mother. Not to mention growing up with a mother that would have aborted you had it been a little more socially acceptable.

If every child was born wanted, and any mother that wanted an abortion could get one without a second thought, humanity as a whole over the course of our entire existence on Earth very well could improve dramatically in ways we didn't even see coming. Children, on average, might be more successful, intelligent, and less likely to turn to crime. Children could be less likely to be born to incompetent or unintelligent parents, preventing them from inheriting their parents' incompetent or unintelligent genes: only people that actually want children would have them.

Evolution begins to take humanity a step further, as abortion becomes a form of natural selection; something that is currently very non-existent in our society, as there is very little hunting, gathering, fighting with nature, and struggling to survive, as our species was thousands of years ago. Today we go to work at the office, buy food at grocery stores and restaurants, and struggle to pay the bills.

According to statistics from Planned Parenthood, 48.2% of abortions are performed by women with a family income of less than $30,000 a year (with 60% of those making less than $15,000 a year), 64.4% of abortions are performed on never-married women, and 52% of abortions are done on women younger than 25. Overall, 93% of all abortions occur for social reasons.

These are the reasons abortions happen, and why they should not only be legal, but encouraged. Rape and incest have little to do with anything, and only account for 1% of abortions performed, while the remaining 6% is due to health complications. Rather, abortions are a form of automated "quality control," where women that want an abortion usually have a pretty good reason. I wouldn't even call abortion a necessary evil. Just necessary.

This, of course, all assumes that God doesn't exist, and that evolution happens. What if God does exist? I see "Pray and Fast to End Abortion" signs in people's yards all over the place. Think about the implications of what that sign is saying. God hates abortion, and supposedly could end it right now, but won't do anything about it until enough people tell him to (and only on an empty stomach)?

If God could / would get rid of abortion, and hasn't done it already, and a fetus has a soul and is considered a human being, then God is allowing around 115,000 "innocent children" to die every day around the world. And then somehow God gets off on blaming it on us for not praying enough? "Yeah, if people prayed and fasted a little more, then I'd take care of it, but no sooner. I've got more important things to do like send gay people to Hell and make Jimmy feel guilty for looking at porn."

And those damn billboards, while we're at it. "Heartbeat at 10 weeks." But then they don't show you a picture of a 10-week-old fetus. They show you a nice, cute, cuddly baby, probably 3-6 months after its birth, all wrapped up in some cute baby clothes. And they pick the one with the most gorgeous, googly baby eyes that make any girl you're driving with go "awwwwww!"

How about some truth in advertising? Why not show what an actual 10-week-old child looks like while it's still swimming around in the womb, not being able to tell which direction is up? Because it doesn't produce as much of an emotional response, as it looks like a seahorse with a monkey's head.

Here's an idea for an alternative message. Imagine seeing this on a billboard: "Did you know? A fetus cannot feel any pain at all until sometime during the third trimester. Well over 99% of abortions occur much, much earlier than this. So if you're thinking about getting an abortion, don't worry: it doesn't have the consciousness to even know it exists, much less feel anything at all. It doesn't have a nervous system."

This has nothng to do rather a God put a soul in that fetus or not. I know the major debates are about that, but to me it is a matter of that fetus will become a child in a few months. it will be eating breathing and functioning. It is like squashing a seed too soon. We must give everyone equal opportunity even if "everyone" is not yet considered "everyone" IF a child would be born in a unwelcoming environment There are tons of desparate parents and couples just waiting for a young child.. There is no need to abort.

I think many poeple abort because of the stigma. they are ashamed that they are young and single and must carry around a bulging belly for nine months with people staring out their "sin" which is ironic because i assume it is probably people that are pro-life that are doing the slandering and judgemental stares. They are ashamed and feel that their life is ruined if the baby is born; so they just walk into a clinic for a couple of hours and "poof" the baby is gone. that is too easy. Especially knowing that these mothers could have brought joy to the live of couples that want a child.

"Children could be less likely to be born to incompetent or unintelligent parents, preventing them from inheriting their parents' incompetent or unintelligent genes: only people that actually want children would have them."
As to your Dawrin's selection. it is brutal to assume that abortion would allow the world to be more successful and intelligent if we performed abortions. I guess eventually we will start aborting fetui when an ulgy person gets pregnant too, or a muslim or jew gets pregnant. that sort of reasoning is dangerous. and should be weighted on personal judgement not hardened into internalized values.

I do agree that when the mother's life is threatened she has the right to abort the child.

I'd just like to say that there is no shortage of young children in foster care with a goal of adoption in these United States.

The most recent data from the US Department of Health and Human Services (Administration for Children and Families department) puts the number of children up for adoption at 105,171. That's just the kids who's goals are adoption. In the foster care system, there are over 500,000 children... with about 300,000 added each each year. And a nice amount of them are under 5--under 3 even. And for those people who couldn't possibly bring a toddler into their home to love, there are even a good percentage of babies. And those babies don't get adopted right away either, despite the alleged number of people desperate to raise them. Infants and young children are entering foster care in greater numbers than any other age group and remain in care longer than older children.

Do you know where those kids go? No where. Only about 5% of kids in foster care ever get adopted. They stay in the foster care system because no one adopts them. They run away, they end up at institutions, they get passed from family to family, they live in group homes, they go to prison. And, when they finally turn 18, a lot of them end up homeless.

Within two to four years of leaving foster care only 54% of kids have completed high school. Less than half are employed, 25% of kids in foster care end up homeless. 30% don't have access to needed health care. 60% of young women leaving foster care have given birth themselves.

Whoever came up with this theory that adoption is always the answer and too many parents are unable to adopt children because there's a shortage of children to adopt is full of shit.

WOW! those statistics are unfortunate. Thanks for the information. Now i am better informed. I guess i was always told by others and even people adopting that the community is always replete with families wanting to adopt. I wonder if the problem is the foster care system or Americans are just not interested in adopting? or both?

Thank you for your statistics, I thought of doing the same thing. I hate when people answer every abortion question with "but people are waiting to adopt!!" What people who are "waiting to adopt" are mostly looking for is a genetically perfect, white baby. Babies with defects & multi-racial children don't have any parents waiting to adopt them usually. And the older a child gets in the system the less wanted they are. Pro-lifers seem to think once the baby is past infancy & in the foster care system, then it doesn't matter if they aren't wanted anymore! They are willing to picket to protect potential life, but a miniscule percentage are willing to foster or adopt the hurting 6 year old waiting for a forever family!
Thank you
