5 Key words: Computer Literacy, Internet Enabling, Empowerment. These are used in the ELT specific context in this paper.

Two important and inspiring quotes created for WikiEducator India Team by this author:
1) “A teacher empowered is a generation empowered.”
2) “A computer literate, internet enabled teacher is better equipped to create nation-building generation.”
For a teacher to be the enlightened citizen of the 21st century knowledge society, it is necessary to recognize that:

i) a teacher is a change agent.
ii) a teacher is a link between the past and the future.
iii) a teacher is threshold lamp of culture for the present generation.
iv) a teacher is the maker of nation-building generation.

The above insights demand greater teacher empowerment. And it helps fulfillment of the Seminar objectives which are delineated in the Brochure-cum-Programme Schedule.

Teacher empowerment in the teaching-learning context ought to be in terms of knowledge whose domain is ever expanding. Not only is the knowledge base is expanding but also its form, management and distribution are undergoing unbelievable changes. By greater empowerment it implies here that a teacher has only to avail oneself of the opportunities for self-empowerment through digital migration. In other words, a teacher has to update and upgrade one’s identity into digital identity.

This author’s first step was:

i) to create an e-mail id and to use it.
ii) checking and composing e-mail.
(By this one discovers the potentials of online presence.)
iii) to operate an e-mail means to learn to use the mouse.

This author’s second step was:

Learning to search and searching to learn.
i) Take note of all websites related to teaching-learning in the areas of one’s interest.
ii) Writing articles and papers frequently.

These two steps have enabled the author to enter the digital knowledge domain to represent our country among the Commonwealth of Learning countries.

All of you are welcome not only to find where he is present globally but also to explore the possibilities of finding your place there.

The required training for this rewarding endeavour is given free by WikiEducators Global Community online. All that you have to do is to approach the computer department of your institution and seek the help of your colleague to create an e-mail id and start using it. G-mail and Yahoo are preferred to other servers for many reasons.

Take a look at what can be done online which is on display now. They are just a few samples.

Before concluding, it is brought to the notice of the esteemed delegates that this author has ventured to create a challenging topic for doctoral thesis on ELT for his candidate, Sri Naveena .V, lecturer in English, Govt First Grade College, Koppa, very recently. The title is “ELT Specific Computer Literacy and Internet Enabling: A Study & Survey.” This is just beginning of the beginning.

Long Live English Teachers Movement.

Jai Hind, Jai Karnataka.
