With the economy the way it is, finding a part time job is near to impossible. I’ve looked and looked online, filled out applications, and looked some more…but there’s nothing. I tried the library…they’re not interested in me because I’d only be there for 10 months. I can’t get a job at most places because I’m not 18 (I HATE that rule, FYI). Everything else is too far from the house (I hate gas prices, too). What’s a kid to do? As of next year, I’m going to have 25K a year on my shoulders for four years. I want to go to college and I want to have a better future for myself, but I can’t even find a stupid job. I’m working on a jillion different scholarships, taking the SAT a billion times (OK, only 2 so far and probably another 2-3 times), and doing everything I can to keep my grades at a 4.0. But it just doesn’t seem to be enough. My parents can’t contribute to my education. What am I going to do? It all just seems hopeless. Is anyone else in the same boat? (stupid question, I know) What are you doing to help your situation?

Just keep trying... you'll eventually find work... until then live on Ramen and water.
Have you tried fast food places? Walmart or Target (or some other store similar to the two)? Those would probably be your best bet as a high school student, maybe working in the mall too. On your resume, make sure you include any volunteer work you've done before, and make a cover letter for the places you apply to, telling them exactly why you want to work there. That'll help you get your foot in the door for an interview.
And if all else fails, hang on until you move away to college and do work study.

Thanks for the advice on the resume stuff. I'll try that in the future. Well, the closest mall is an hour away and the closest Wal Mart or fast food place is 20 minutes away, so it makes it kinda difficult to talk my mom into bringing me back and forth.
