so someone mentioned today that they didn’t like these crazy holidays like st Patrick’s day and Halloween and even Christmas! ( I know I was stunned to haha) then said that it was all about commercial and money and im thinking...ummm duh?! of course it is but come on! how much fun is it. sure, the holidays don’t have the same religious meaning they once had but if you want them to, then make it your own. but I love every holiday, I love national marijuana day (I don’t even smoke, I just thinks its funny!), I love April fools, I love it all. and I am not ashamed to say, I love the stupid over priced cards haha, I think they are so clever and funny and if they sing, even better! it just seems like everyone wants to make a frown about something, I wish everyone would stop trying to be "mature" and just be in love with the magic of snow falling on a Christmas eve, or watching the April fools prank, that you have planned for months, work out perfectly. I am completely happy to say that my parents still give us gifts from Santa and the Easter bunny! its tradition, its a crazy, pointless, expensive idea, but its tradition and frankly I am soooo glad that I am apart of it.
and! I feel horrible for Russians, I am not sure if this is still going on but the Russian government has banned some of the western holidays because they don’t want their tradition to be lost, all I have to say to their government is- geez! stop being a party pooper haha. your people adopted those holidays because they wernt having fun with yours!

The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates Christmas on January 7th... however when Communists took over they banned the celebration of all religious holidays... so New Year's Eve became an incredibly celebrated holiday to kind of make up for it. Trees, fireworks, parties, Father Christmas--the works. The tradition of celebrating Christmas on New Year's kind of stuck. Or that's what my tour guide told us. If you are ever in Russia for New Year's, it is crazy fun times! :-)

So, no. It's not still banned, but the tradition has changed.

Also, I've never seen a greeting card for April 20th... but perhaps that would be an idea I can profit off of... ;-)
