Can money change a person?

Tagged:  •

I know I can't say this but I need some opinion. People say money changes people, does it? I know if you were born that way with a silver spoon in your mouth you are naturally dependent on help and have no respect for what you have. But what if you were born of a poor or middle class family, would you change into a dependent brat that has no respect for anything they buy or have? Or would they keep the values they received from their parents about caring for others, helping people, take pride in the things you have? Would they have the same friends they had in school when they were kids growing up or would the have new rich friends?

Now, what would you do in this situation? If you acquired a large sum of money, would you change into a spoiled rich person or would you keep your acquired values you were taught as a child of a poor or middle class family? State why or why not because I am lost on this subject.

As Benjamin Franklin said, Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of filling a vacuum, it makes one.”

As bad as it sounds, money changes people; myself included. Who doesn't love cold hard cash. As I go through my senior year of high school, I'm having to look high and low for scholarships and $, because the schools I want to go to are way too expensive. Whether the end result is good or bad, the fact is money can without question change people.

Money doesn’t make one happy, but it makes life more easy!

Money is the cancer in this world, it makes people sick all over this globe!

We could easily live in a world without money, but this will probably take another 500 years to become a reality....

How would we live in a world without money? And why would it take 500 years?

I think that you are making a terrible generalization about people that are wealthy. I personally am from a modest middle class family, but one of my best friends is from an incredibly upper class family and is more caring for other individuals than anyone I have ever met. She is responsible with her money and works hard to not be dependent on her parents.

I think your blog raises a great topic for discussion, but I do not think you should generalize people's personalities based on their income, as you have done with this statement in particular:

"I know if you were born that way with a silver spoon in your mouth you are naturally dependent on help and have no respect for what you have."

And in response to the question you pose: Money can change people but does not always. I truly believe that it depends on the individual and the situation.

That's really not true at all.
