Globalization: A force of good or evil?

This may seem like a simple question, with a simple answer for some. You will get different responses though. Talk to the leaders of multinationals like Exxon, Microsoft and Google and you will receive positive leanings towards Globalization. You might hear about the "inevitability" of the force that is Globalization. It is a "matter of time" so sooner or later the world will flatten and Globalization will takeover the world.

Some see Globalization as a force of evil. Globalization kills culture! Look at African nations, look at Asia. It is interesting to see what Globalization brings to countries. With a growing uniformity in dress, food and business practices companies like Nike, McDonald's, and Windows are growing in influence in different countries of the world. The linkages between world markets means that fuel disruptions in the Nigerian Delta cause oil prices go up in the United States. Riots have occurred in Haiti over the price of food, the price of which is set by the world "market" which Haitians cannot control because they import most of their food.

There are compelling arguments for both sides, but some serious issues need to be addressed: Is it really possible for a country to exclude itself from world affairs? Is it possible to shield people from the market? How much influence should MNC's have in a country? and Is free trade an achievable and viable goal? Food for thought...
