Ignorance...

Ignorance is the main problem I see in today's society. People are afraid of anything that is different or unfamiliar, but very few people actually bother to familiarize themselves with the unknown. After 9/11, the entire nation lived in fear of people of middle-eastern decent. These people look different, and in many cases believe something very different and hard to grasp, so they must be terrorists. If we had taken the time to realize they (for the most part) had the same hopes, dreams, and goals, everyone would be better off.

Why, then, do so many people choose ignorance? Is it because of ignorance? Is it because our parents teach us "that we are right"? Are we so influenced by the narrow-mindedness of the few? I'm really not sure. I do know that everyone has the same problem with pre-conceived notions. I know that I hate watching TV or going public places with my parents because they make narrow-minded comments about people because of how they look. I know that my parents don't know a lot of my friends because I am afraid my parents will make unacceptable comments about my friends that might drive a wedge into a beautiful thing.

Sorry, but this post was kind of pointless. It didn't add anything useful, or tell me anything I didn't already know.

I agree that the main problem with today's society is a lack of understanding or in your view loud ignorance. However, I believe , as you said, there are only a few loud narrowed minded poeple. These people represent a small minority that are thrusted into tthe limelight because of their eccentric views and ideas of world. The majority views the world in a much more moderate manner.

I believe it is narrow-minded people who make this world crappy. I am very open-minded, but I still have opinions. Just because people look a certain way doesn't give someone the right to judge them. No one is perfect. My dad is bad with that and it started to rub off on me, but then I fixed it because I realized it was wrong.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I am voting for Lewis Black.
