Sitting in my government class today I heard something that really disturbed me. I over heard the conversation of a girl saying that she felt that women should be below men and that she would never like to have a woman president. This really disturbed me. Don't get me wrong I am male and I'm not a super feminist or something like that but I believe that woman should have be equal to men in rights, pay, chances and everything else a person could think of. They should also not receive any more rights than a man. Both sexes are equals and should be viewed that way. But back to the point of that girl saying she thought women should be below men. This is a time in history where every woman should feel empowered and should want to prove their equal status. Hilary Clinton came so close to becoming the Democratic presidential nominee and Sara Palin has the chance of becoming the first woman vice president. I feel that this is no time for women to feel subservient. If anything it is a time for them to feel strong. Women are so close to achieving something that has only been achieved by men, that being winning the presidential election. I feel that in 2012 a woman can be in the White House and if she is the right person for the job, I will support her.
Women against Women's Rights?

I agree with you. This is the first time in our nation's history that women have been able to enjoy the things they can. Sarah Palin has a great chance of becoming the first female vice president. She's only the 2nd woman ever in history to be a vice-presidential candidate. Hilary Clinton almost claimed the Presidential nomination for the Democratic party. Women should be able to stand tall, and to prove to men that they are just as capable in leadership roles. This girl in your government class may just be an extreme traditionalist. Women's roles have traditionally been in the home, and not in charge of the household, or by any means leadership within the country. While I am moderately conservative, and believe women make better homemakers than men do, I believe that women can be just as capable as men, and I support Sarah Palin in her effort to reach the White House as the first female vice-president.

I agree with you about equality of the sexes. But if this is true, shouldn't we look at Sarah Palin's and Hillary Clinton's personalities, political decisions, and motives, not only when we vote but when we say things like 'Women are so close to achieving something that has only been achieved by men.' I think that women haven't quite acheived equality in all things and that we should take our time in acheiving equality politically. I personally don't want the first woman prez to be remembered as Hillary Clinton or VP as Sarah Palin. We need women that will prove beyond a doubt that we deserve political equality, that we can do just as good a job or better than a man in political office.
Maybe the tangent I want to lead off on is that women should lead the way out of corruption in Washington. But I will leave it at that.
That kind of feeds into this. While I would watch the VP debate, or in general, watch Sarah Palin speak, it made me quite uncomfortable, because it was like "let's watch the lady supporting her man," you know what I mean? I was so suprised that I felt that way, but that's the way it looked to me.

I totally agree with you. this is a woman's time to embrace the idea of equality. it is amazing how people can put themselves down when they deserve so much more.
