Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura

Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura also known as ITP is a condition i was diagnosed with in feburary of '07. Itp is where your blood platelets don't clot correctly for no apparent reason what so ever. I had never been in the hospital before 2007 and now i have been in so many times i cant even count. I go to my local Children's hospital and have my blood taken and levels calculated every 2 weeks.....it used to be every week the first few months i had it. I had to quit playing soccer because if you get a bruise when you have ITP and your levels are low theres a chance that you could bleed to death. Along with having very low leveled platlets when i was admitted to the hospital ( in the 7,000 range) I also had low hemoglobin, which made me extremely tired. All these factors combined i was out of school for 2 1/2 weeks and even when i returned i was kind of in zombie mode. All of these strange things were happening at once, and only a few months before my parents had gotten divorced i didn't know what to do with myself.
Its now 1 year and 8 months since i was diagnosed and although i still have it and have to have my levels checked all the time im doing a lot better. I also moved in permanently with my mom which makes it easier on me instead of going back and forth all the time.
Itp is a very commonly known disorder and when you try to explain it to people im not sure most of them understand the full on effects of non-clotting blood If anyone here has ITP feel free to share your stories ive never met anyone before with it...let alone people who have heard of it =o

My sister has Itp. I wish they would find a cure for it. Your blog was really good.
