There are many things our government keeps from us. These things are meant to keep America safe and not alarm them of the dangers surrounding our country. But is it better to remain ignorant about these things or know about them?
The government has helped remain many of its secrets so as not to alarm the American citizens. For instance, the government tried to keep the events of Guantanamo Bay from leaking. But through the years, execution videos and graphic images reached the American public. Then the government invented the Nuclear Bomb and shortly after, the Soviet Union created the weapon as well. This greatly alarmed our citizens as no one knew what the outcome of this Cold War would be.
During the high school shootings in the 1990s, the Americans feared for their kids as more and more cases appeared where gun violence caused deaths. More recent, today the US PATRIOT ACT which violates our privacy without us knowing is in tact in order to “protect” us.
So are we better not knowing that these things are going around us? Are we better off being ignorant? Or should we be alerted of these events? Those are questions that today determine the safety of our country…
Ignorance or Truth?
