Fellow young Americans, I wish to share with you an observation.
Throughout history, the greatest changes in or great country have taken shape in popular movements. Many are quite well known, such as the American Revolution, the Abolitionist movement, and the Progressive Movement. Each movement sought out the same thing: a higher ideal than has previously been imagined: a world of greater conscience, of equality, and of civil liberty. Without these and other movements, we surely would not be where we are today.
Friends and fellow bloggers, this is what I see around me:
Even now it is rolling and building, a great tide of liberty, made of voices, not water; powered by patriotism, not politics; working through the system. They are the voices of a new generation seeking to transform the world. This is not a generation like those that have come before. We seek reasoning and deliberate, effective action; we seek a goverment that is once again for the people, by the people. We want to build society where ideas may be shared and vetted; a place where all are allowed to speak their mind, but hate must be answered for in front of all.
What is sought is not a Utopia, but simply the best we as a nation have it in ourselves to be. We shall judge ourselves before we judge others and we will learn as well as teach. We see all humanity as brothers and sisters. We seek to defend and never attack.
My fellow Americans, this dream is not only a dream, but a rising tide among us: it is even within us. It is even now growing and spreading, a collection of voices in harmonious chant that grows louder every day. This tide is our own, made of our cries for greater justice and equality for everyone in our world.
The time is coming where this tide must move, cresting over the remnants of our parents' world. Our tide will not destroy, but revive those best parts of the past and tirelessly wash away the grime of old. Then the tide will be our effort, through participation in all levels of civil life we will work this gentle revolution and move this country towards a more perfect Union.
If I strike a chord, please respond what ever way you can.
