Race is not a problem in the 2008 election. Why? Because it is scientific fact that there is one single biological or genetic race. The human race. Race is something that the earliest Americans created to justify taking away the land of the Native Americans, to justify the idea of slavery. Race was created by Hitler in Nazi Germany to give reason to killing thousands of people. Do you know that there are more biological differences within a “race,” than between them? All ideas of race are of social race. It is the concept of raising some up, and bringing others down.
If you are using this argument of “race” in terms of the presidential election, you should probably think about changing your terms, perhaps considering ethnicity. Barack Obama is not black. Nor is McCain white.
Tiger Woods once described himself in an interview with Oprah, upon being asked if it bothered him to be called African American, with a term that he created when he was young: Cablinasian. That is, Caucasian-black-Indian-Asian. He could not have been more right to say that.
African American, our “politically correct” term is not even correct. I will never identify as a white female. My ethnicity is English, French, German, and Syrian. As for my race, I am human.
What is yours?

I have to say that I agree wholeheartedly. I have to ask: Do you think the world would be better if people identified with ideas instead battling stereotypes? I dont feel strongly either way, just searching for some discourse.
Again, that was well said, I liked it a lot.
Interesting argument. Do you have any documentation that Hitler was the "creator" of the word race? i think it is much more deep rooted than that.
Kristinalyig07, I think I should have worded it more clearly, he was not the sole creator of the term, but he created that races that he was killing.
I think that had the idea of race not been created, there would be no real worries of stereotypes in that manner. So I guess my idea is that neither the ideas or the stereotypes should matter. We should all identify as humans, as the individual that we are. If only that were a possibility.

Hitler didn't create the word race. It was being used to describe different peoples long before him. "Race", as it is now, was invented when "scientists" started trying to classify people around the world. around the 17th century, people like Francois Bernier and Carolus Lineaus started using the word "race" to refer to people.
