Is Race an Issue in the Presidental Election of 2008

One day I was watching television and a reporter says "black people are only voting for Obama because he is black". I felt like that statement was oblivious and dishonoring black people's intelligence. So is it that black people should not be able to vote for Obama? If so than white people should not be able to vote for Mccain, because if the statement stands white people are only voting for him because of his skin color. So should someone just vote for a candidate just because of the color or gender of the individual?

Why is it that everytime someone affiliated with Obama does something wrong Obama gets blamed for the situation and the situation is taking out of context. Whereas Mccain has been affiliated with people who have done things discrediting and the situation is not taking out of context? Do you believe this is racial?

Are we a nation so wraped up into race that we can not see a person for who s/he really is? Some people say black people us race as an escape goat for problems they face do you believe this is true? If so you should just spend one day trying to see both sides of any situation and not just your side. I spent several days looking at both sides of the situation. So do you believe Obama has obstacles to get through because he is black? If so why and if no why not?

Of course race is an issue in this election. For the first time, the American people have a vaild opportunity of elected an African-American man to the White House. Polls across the nation have shown people are planning to vote McCain, because they are still not comfortable with voting for a man of color. Now I do support Senator McCain, but my reason is not because of the color of his skin. I think it's unfortunate for people to decide who to vote for by their race, and not by their stance on the issues in our society. Racism and racial profiling are two demons in our society that will never go away.
