The Showdown That Became a Letdown

I'll admit I was wrong. I personally expected that one or both of the major candidates would make a major gaffe or would alter the race in some "game-changing" way as the media has been calling it. Both of the two candidates were quite convincing and composed on stage. Most people were unsure how the debate would change their opinions but polls conducted shortly after the debate show that it was a wash for the most part. And the debate that was supposed to change the scope of the race will soon be forgotten as people will start to concentrate on the next Presidential debate which is taking place on Tuesday. Both Gov. Palin and Sen. Biden made strong and honest appeals to the American people but they each took different tactics. Palin tried to make herself more relatable to the common people with references to "Joe six-packs" and "soccer moms" while Biden used his credibility as his sticking points. He used Senator name-dropping like Hagel and Luger (both Republicans) to show his ability to get things done and also to "reach across the aisle" and become a bipartisan legislator. In the end, each campaign went into their spin rooms and came out with their own version of the debate but the average American responded by saying that each candidate had their flaws and their strong points and in the end it canceled out so now we move on. The election is just a month away, so all that we have to do now is look forward to the response of the voters to issues raised and ideas argued.

Palin's attempts to be relatable seemed very put on for me. Her golly gee and the painful reference to the "City on the Hill" was too sugary for me!

I think that voters, analysts, and advisers to each campaign built up the VP debates in such a way, that we expected a brawl or scandal to form. It wasn't as exciting as we hoped, but a definite impact was made, or so I believe.
