targetting voters

The presidential election has transformed into a media side show full of negative slogans, magazine covers, and has become a big popularity contest. The fact of the matter is that so much attention has been placed on pregnant teenage daughters, old age, and questionable religious backgrounds, that the plans of action the candidates expect to deliver have been brushed aside and only recently (due to the grave state of our country) have been brought to the forefront. Having said this, I wanted to talk about genius advertising and marketing done by the Obama campaign aiming at young voters.

Picture Bush and McCain standing next to each other waving with the slogan: "4 More Years?"

This is the advertisement on myspace.com paid for by Obama's campaign. This ad and many others from the Obama camp are pushing the agenda that John McCain will be another President Bush, and with the state of our country economically and globally, that alternative scares many Americans, specifically the youth. The combination of a simple yet poignant implication on a primarily youth based website is brilliant. Myspace is a forum on the internet with millions of users, specifically young people, and aiming at them with a simple message may be all they need to know to vote against McCain next month, and for Obama! While I would rather see some messages about what Barack has planned for our country should he win come November, you cannot knock him for knowing how to target an important voting audience.

I agree, I think the young vote is important but I don't think it will impact the outcome too much. Historically, the youth of America vote less that the elders of America. That being said, who do the senior citizens vote for? A man who wants to change their social norms or a man who doesn't?

Welcome to the world of modern elections, canididates have been dragging each others names through the mud as part of their campaign since the election of 1896. Which led to the election of the most corrupt administration in our nation's history, but that's beside the point.

Yes Obama's CAMPAIGN MANAGER is very smart to use that to obtain the youth vote
