Media Circus.
These are the first two words that come to mind as the buzz surrounding the upcoming election grows and grows.
They, whoever they are, say that any publicity is GOOD publicity, but honestly, I question that. This is an important year in politics, and I question how many people are basing their decision on the next president based on actual issues, or rather on how they are portrayed on popular t.v. shows.
I'd bet that more people watched, or are aware of the fact that Sen. John McCain "stood up" David Letterman, to appear on t.v. with Katie Couric, than watched the debates. I'd also bet more people are aware of Tina Fey's impression of Sarah Palin than what Obama promises to do in Health Care Reform or what McCain hopes to do about Social Security. And the thing that disappoints me, is that it is "news programs" who cover the above stories rather than the actual issues.
Now, I'm not saying I never watch SNL, but I think as a country we should definitely be stepping up to the plate. I know this is shoved down many young people's throats, and I don't mean to preach, but today more than ever, the issues matter. The decisions the next president will make, will not only impact us over the next four years, but may even have consequences in the future.
Global warming, alternative energy, Social Security, are all issues that need to be dealt with now, and how those issues are resolved will definitely effect how our lives will work over the rest of our days.
So, keep watching SNL, but, we also should try to tune into the actual debates. No, don't try, ACTUALLY tune into the debates. Look at the candidates from an informed perspective. Vote, not on how these people are portrayed on spoofs, but on who you honestly think will do what is best for our country today, and in the future!

Actually, if you line up the SNL spoof of Sarah Palin's interview with Katie Couric with the real interview, they are incredibly similar. SNL didn't really have to work very hard to spoof it. ;-)

I actually did see that. Palin made it too easy. Ha ha.

Well put. I must agree with you and it is for this reason that I'm actually against many of the youth in our country turning out to vote.
