"Jesus Loves You" is a phrase I've heard my whole life. Usually, I schlepp it off like nothing, but recently I read a funny story about the commonly used phrase.
At Thunderbolt Elementary, a sixth grader running for student council president made signs that read, "Jesus [heart]'s You Lexi for Prez!" At first I thought....Haha! What an interesting way to campaign....but then i realized the controversy this has created. All over a sign made my a child, parents have been getting like really upset. Sure, it's a public school, but is the phrase on the sign really that big of a deal? Parents are complaining to the school about the signs. But, is the school at fault for the message on the signs? Yeah...religion and school shouldn't mix, but the signs weren't school sponsered--Lexi made them on her own. Overall, I'm not offended. I have no problem with the signs. They are unique and original. However, the fact that they are hung in a public school is a little touchy. You never know, maybe these signs have caused children with other religions to question their parents about who “Jesus” is. But, honestly, is the message on the sign that terrible? Should the school have to take them down?
