Non-Issue

I've been on Progressive U for quite some time now. I recently changed my user name from esuffern, which is why you might not recognize me. I go through phases of being on and off the site; sometimes I get discouraged by how uneducated and unaware so many people are and I start to lose my faith in humanity. Then I take a break and come back to fight the good fight.

I'm finishing up my third year at University of California, San Diego, working on a degree in Human Development with a minor in Biology. I'm hoping to go on to get a Master's in Speech Pathology, but my dream job would be in sex education.

The most valuable thing Progressive U does for me is give me a window into the minds of average American young people. The site helps me seeks out new information, research issues, and build my attitudes and beliefs.

More about what I'm passionate about and my ideology:

I'm non-religious; I was raised that way and I've never found religious doctrine appealing. I'm passionate about social justice; I try to devote my spare time to help end oppression, which takes various forms, from handing out free lube to coordinating events for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, to registering voters, to joining the White Anti-Racist Discussion Group. Most of the books and things I read for fun are about feminism, sexism, racist oppression, religion, sexuality, and eco-sustainability.

I love Netflix. I can recommend a bunch of great films and TV shows. My main news sources are The Huffington Post, Feministing.com and Feministe.us/blog. You can say they have a liberal bias, I'll admit that and say I don't mind.

Enjoy my blog.
