Art traces his roots as a progressive back to his childhood in a small town in rural Ohio.
The son of a professor at a small college, Art watched as his father
worked with students from a wide variety of backgrounds, serving as an advisor
for the Upward Bound program, helping students from low-income backgrounds
prepare for college and adjust to college life.
One of Art’s most vivid memories from this period was his
family’s participation in an exchange program with young people from Cleveland. His family was host to a seven-year-old boy named Vincent. During the course of his time with Vincent, Art learned that
their similarities in goals and interests were far greater than their
differences. Nevertheless, as they
dropped Vincent off at his home in central Cleveland, Art was left with a
strange mixture of awe and confusion – how could someone from such a different
background be so similar inside?
Over thirty years later, Art has learned not to let outward
differences between people get in the way of cooperation and teamwork to achieve
mutual goals. Art has worked as a
technology and business consultant in Japan, as a software developer, manager,
and solution architect at technology startups, and as a financial analyst at a
Fortune 500 company. Additional
experience in product management and channel sales round out his management
experience.
Art received a B.A., summa cum laude, from the University
of Colorado. He also holds an
M.B.A. in International Management, with distinction, from Thunderbird, the
Garvin School of International Management.
