Has there ever really been change?

I saw a magazine at my parents and these were the top stories:

President Bush
The War in Iraq
Religion in Schools
Gay Rights
Abortions

Based on those topics one would assume that this magazine was fairly current, with in the last few years. After browsing through it I came across the story of President Bush, they were referring to the first President Bush. The magazine was from 1991. Not a lot of change. Some may argue that changed happen during the Clinton years and that we just reversed back to the way things were with the first Bush when the current President came along. That may be true, but I remember there always being debates about three of those topics.

This got me thinking, how do we really make change? Is that even possible? As long as abortions can actually be done, legally or illegally, there will be debate. Debates themselves are not bad, so why do we associate debating with needing change? Heated argument and oh no…things must need be different! What exactly equates to change? People believing the same as you or I?

Sorry if the two topics above do not seem to connect, but they meshed well in my brain.

Random thought that has NOTHING to do with the above topic: Why do people feel that they are excused from using the terms “please” and “thank you?”

I guess I don't quite understand exactly what you mean by that. But I think it's ironic that "change" seems to be the message concerning presidential elections right now, yet nothing has happened even with the encouragement of change throughout society over time.

Please and thank you are definitely not excused. Oh please Oh please Oh please...

I am saying that just because people are debating does not mean we need to rush out and change things.

In one class there were debates and one lady felt that with every debate something needed to be changed about how we believed. Some topics being debated would have had no effect on individuals one way or another, yet she honestly felt that all topics have a final, correct answer.

This country was built with people fighting and debating.. Why try and change it now stop the harrasing of these people... Put yourself in there shoes. The stress the ridicule the judgement.. Not the life i would want to live.. Keep it to yourself people, we dont need any more "drama" in this country!

It's not bad all the time. But if we never argue, then nothing will ever change. So while all debate doesn't need to end in some earth-shattering answer to one of life's greatest questions, it is necessary. If no one ever argued for gay rights, or for suffrage, or for racial equality, where would we be?? Nothing would ever change.

Though, I agree... it seems like not much has changed recently...

The change that is needed isn't necessarily in policy, although there are some policies that could use improvement. The way people think is what needs to change.

I love abortion. Read more here:
