I must admit, on first examination, I may not seem the traditional pop-culture geek. I do not own video games. I do not subscribe to manga magazines. I hardly even follow the plots of the various Final Fantasy games that have come into being. But beneath my quiet, seemingly uncultured exterior, I harbor a secret passion on one science fiction subject: Robots. Or, to be more specific, this dreaded robot uprising that's bound to occur.
Now, I know I'm not the first to attempt to explore this subject. Daniel H. Wilson has already done an admirable job in compiling a book for roboticists, geeks, and robots alike--called, fittingly enough, "How to Survive a Robot Uprising." (You can find his website for the book here: http://www.robotuprising.com/)
But I'm not here to give a book report. I'm here to see what actual teens think about the subject. You see, the only experience I've gotten from discussing robots is with my friends, my friend robots, and members of my immediate family. My sister and mother, especially, try to suppress my desire to talk to *real* people about the subject--saying something about that I'm embarassing them. But what use is the sake of embarassment when there are hordes, yes, absolute hordes of vacuum robots, pet robots, and walking robots infiltrating our carbon-based world? In short, do you think roboticism is worth a good heated debate in Progressive U? I'd love some insight on your opinions, and will try to answer all questions as soon as I can--it depends on whether or not my school will ban this site. Until then, I shall remain
Your crazed roboticist,
Habanya Namal
