Hello everyone,

First let me begin by saying this is my first blog on Progressive U and I plan on doing this daily.

Since these need to pertain to recent events among other things I suppose I'll start with something I just read about FEMA.

After they specifically said they would never use the trailers they used to house hurricane victims during hurricane Katrina, they have approved them for the 2008 Hurricane season. The reason FEMA said they wouldn't use these trailers again is because of an unsafe levels of formaldehyde.

In case you don't know what formaldehyde is it's a chemical compound that can be used to disinfect or vaccinate bacteria. It's also used for embalming to preserve corpses.

Some of the side effects that Hurricane Victims had to endure because of the chemical compound included a hard time breathing, nose bleeds, and over time an abundant amount of exposure can cause burning to your eyes and even some types of cancer!

Great job guys. Honestly, I would rather be on the street than in a trailer with high levels of formaldehyde. I mean at least on the street I have a better chance of staying cancer-free. I really don't understand how they could even think to approve this again. Another thing is that the president of FEMA has to approve anything they do, for example, the trailers. Let's look back at 2005 when the former president of FEMA got on national television and claimed to not have even heard of Hurricane Katrina during the devastation it caused. Is having an I.Q. under 60 a requirement for the job? I mean seriously I understand that most politicians or government agencies maybe not the brightest bulb in the package, but how stupid.

This was Fortuna,
thanks for your time!

I read something about that earlier today and I was appalled. but, it's fitting for me right now because I'm preparing for debate nationals and we have a resolution on abolishing FEMA and this is just going to help my case. I think that yes, having an I.Q. under 60 is probably a requirement for the job. I can't believe they'd do something like that. I think that they should stay in the trailers for a week and let hurricane victims live in their homes.
