At this stage of our lives we're all looking for our purpose in life, whether it's going to college to start a career or getting a job and provide for our families. I've talked to people and they think everyones purpose in life should be to better the world, better humanity. But i say why should that be everyones purpose. Yeah there are some who may have that purpose, but should every one do things just for the betterment of society. Can't it be for themselves? Basketball players and football players don't improve our society. Yeah so some famous players donate money to charities, but all in all i think the world would be the same with out sports...maybe a little more boring, but our fundamentals won't be drastically changed. Peoples purpose should be to enjoy their lives and live for good times. If that means helping out society then yay for you. Kudo points!

i agree that to each his own basically. I think that we should in general seek our own purpose in life, but I also think that although it is not our purpose, it is our responsibility to better society. Whether each individual chooses the accept that is their choice, but as a whole we should do what makes us happy, and also do what we can to help those in need as well.
Yeah, I agree with you. It seems that colleges entice students, saying that they will prepare you for shaping and changing the world, that their college is going to make a leader out of you. I think that it is kind of pompous and unrealistic to assume that you will or can cause change on a national or global level.
Also, I think that the way you live your life may cause more change than all the money and time you give to good causes. Those famous athletes may cause more change by their behavior on the playing field than what they do in their free time.
