Healthcare for America!!!

Recently, my mother, at the age of 52, was diagnosed with cancer. She has had a tumor(sarcoma) growing at the base of her back for almost two years now. At firsttshe thought little of it, assuming perhaps that it was a bone spur caused by a broken foot and having to walk differently because of that injury. Well, come to find out, it was more than that. This tumor, when removed, was the size of a grapefruit. and believed to be a stage IV sarcoma. Why, might some ask, did she not get it looked at sooner? Well, simply answered, she had no medical insurance. She was so consumed with paying herday to day bills that she did not want to go to the doctors and rack up medical bills. She never thought that this would be the end result. As a matter of fact, when an aunt of mine said, "I hope it's not cancer. ", we all sort of chuckled at what an insensitive thing this was to say.
Being such a fine country that we live in, there must be some imaginable way for every American to have health nsurance. It is so necessary. Things like this would not have to happen. If my mom had medical insurance two years ago, she most defenitely would have gotten this problem taken care of. Now the cancer has spread to her lungs and possibly to her bone, and, honestly, I don't know if she is going to survive this. Whoever this country elects as our next leader, he or she needs to make universal health care a number one priority.

Wow, my prayers are with you going through this and your mom. I total agree with you about the Health care issue. It is so completely out of hand at this point. Even when you have insurance, you still pay a lot of money for deductibles, co-pays and etc. There i a state that they take a percentage from your wages or taxes and everybody is covered the same way. Whether you are rich, low income or on welfare, a certain amount per your income should be taken out and everyone is medically covered. Anyway, I hope things turn on the positive side for your mom. Remember my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

it is sad that we can not have universal healthcare but it would make the situation worse. places like canada who have healthcare for everyone take forever to get anything done. just to even get a non life threatening surgery it can take over a year because you have to be on a waiting list. though i am so sorry for your situation and i know what you are going through. my grandfather died from brain cancer a couple years ago. i hope for the best for you and your family

I have heard this about Canada. I know that it does take a long time to get anything done. At least, Ihave heard that elective operations and non-emergency situations take longer and not necessarily life-threatening cases. My mom's surgery was so imperative that they resceduled for the next day after her consultation with the surgeon. Situations like this may be treated more sensetivly.

I strongly advocate Universal Healthcare but an effective version. The problem with Universal Healtcare is the effectiveness and many countries will attest to this. With Universal Healthcare it often happens that a country can cover a large amount of people, but with minimal effectivenss. Whereas privitization of Health care can't cover everyone but is usually effective for the people covered. While both Hillary Clintons and Barack Obamas Healtcare plans are universal, I believe that the most effective system would be Barack Obamas. Hillary Clintons initiates enough to cover all 300 million U.S. citizens, whereas Baracks is a public insurance option. It allows people who don't have Healthcare to be covered rather than transforming our entire Healthcare system into an inneffective socialist plan. It boils down to quality over quantity and there is a way to have both, through Barack Obamas plan.
