Theatramania and the downfall of western culture

Theatramania is the obsession with observation, and it is the sign of the first stages of cultural decline. the Roman empire suffered from before the fall of the golden age as do many great civilizations , the problem is that as a culture advances and people become extremely specialized we developed a small caste set of participators and a overly large set of watchers, today's society is following this course, just as roman citizens would watch their theaters and arena matches for hours on end, do we not to merely watch for the most part of our lives? how much of participation do we have? I watch sports and TV and listen to music, and I make some music, but I don't express myself in very many ways at all. in the Informational age where the individual has his greatest power of self expression I feel that I have not adequately voiced my inner self and found out who I really am.

I think one of the problems in our society is that we constantly say that there is a right way and a wrong way to do things thus crushing many individuals expressions, look at dancing for a example, the movement of the body as human expression , but how many people do we make fun of for their apparent inability to do this? which of course just oppresses people into not doing it more. singing, dancing, playing music, these forms of expression shouldn't be held back to such a small spectrum, I think we need to get back to the days of tribal dances where personal ability held little baring on communal participation and expression.

just a thought, I think I'm going to organize a drum circle this week maybe and just like get a ton of people together to play drums and dance around and try and become more secure with ourselves and break the social chains that hold me and maybe others down.

A drum circle sounds like fun. I grew up less than 5 miles away from my tribe's powwow grounds, and I always loved powwow time because I could hear the drums all day and all night. I would lie outside under the stars and enjoy the music. It was so relaxing.

yeah I just want to work on being a 100% ok with who I am and feeling that I could dance and not care what people think , that I can play my music and not worry if others enjoy it, and just express myself more so then worrry about impressing others.
