So this is my first, so bear with me as I fumble around for a way to start this whole blogging phenom. But my question is: who cares what polygamists do with their kids?
Okay, let's be frankly honest here. Let's say your next door neighbor has more than two wives who in turn both have two kids. Yeah, you might think it a little odd, but does that affect how you think of your potential playmates? "No sir" is usually the response from liberal America.
BUT when there are cases and cases of documented physical and mental abuse among young women in these groups, such as the one under the microscope currently, the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints, who is to say that while we (I include myself) in an effort to be so liberal, forget that our acceptance sometimes leads to these cases of pain and suffering. That IF we had scrutinized it a little more closely, someone might have been saved.
How, as a liberal, can I sleep at night when this very same day I'm defending the FLDS's rights as a religion to do as it pleases? I can't. And that is the question I pose: How can we sleep?

We can sleep because it's not our job to handle the case. We can voice our opinions and create awareness, but unless you're ready to pack your bags and go do some counseling down in Texas, you have to let the people handling the case to their jobs. If you feel so passionately about it, you can consider a career that would have an impact on the issue.
