I had to do this because this is going to be a very important aspect of my life very very soon and I wanted my comment to be known. There were many responses to her very well stated and informing blog. Good job.
Now on to the topic In her blog (ediblewoman) states that " Some Deaf people can read lips, but not all. Also keep in mind that reading lips is only about 30% accurate, even for a skilled lip reader."
This is an important feature in my summer school classes at the community college I will be attending in June. When I told my friends that if I liked the class I may go into Elementary Education for Deaf children, they were shocked and told me that I would make less money then a regular teacher and that I may end up teaching at a private school. I was furious! My major allready is Early childood Education and Im going for my masters. I thought that my friends knew that the carreer alone was not taken for the money but for the love of children and wanting to make a difference. Since these are not my close friends and they are from my current community college and the semester is over on Thursday it will be easy for me to find new friends. ( Im switching schools as well for June and next year)
But I want the world to know that I feel it is my duty and responsibility to be the biggest impact on the future generations. What better way to do that then to be a teacher. Im very serious though I may have to get nationally certified to get the required classes for it but I think i would enjoy it very much. I will keep you posted on this subject and will write a full review after taking my first Sign Language course in June.
ediblewoman this goes to you. You are such a sweet woman I wish there were more people like you.

Your friends may be right, or they may be wrong. It depends on a lot of things. If your district has a large Deaf population, a teacher who can sign would be a huge asset, and as a certified teacher in a public school, you would make the same amount of money. Some districts hire DHH (Deaf and Hard of Hearing) teachers as paraprofessionals, which would mean you would make less than a teacher. If you end up working in a public school district that doesn't have much of a Deaf population, you may have to teach in a private school, which would pay less, but this is true of any teacher at a private school. Most privates schools pay less (but not all).
I say go for it and do what feels important to you.

Indeed. Though I think it's safe to say she doesn't care about the money, which is a rare thing these days.
Hopefully, she'll find that balance between the job she loves and one that's at least lucrative enough to help her pay everything off and live reasonably well.

Thanks for th comment. I may end up making less but my boyfriend and I have decided that he will be the main provider

Please use the reply link when responding to a comment. And for the general record, it's considered very very poor form to post a blog, especially one this short, in response to another. It would have been far better if you had 1) put this in a comment in ediblewoman's blog, or 2) came up with a creative title and mentioned her blog (as well as linking to it) as your inspiration.

Im also pretty sure I can write a blog on whatever I want and it doesnt have to be a novel like yours are.
Why dont you go badger someone else I dont care about your rude comments. Dont you have anything better to do than beat up my positive blogs!..

Way to go on the teaching, when i came out about going to school for teaching, my parents flipped out, they all wanted me to do Physical thearpy like my mom. However i have always worked with children, and I love it...Kids are the most honest, loving people you will ever know. They see not predijust, and they love life...Not to mention they see things adults do not.
I think what your doing is awesome, also pay not mind to rude comments, people do it all the time to me, they don;t mean it to be mean, they are just trying to help???
