My Summary:
A community grocery store is in plan for Harrisonburg, VA. The Friendly City Food Co-Op will have locally grown foods and produce along with hard-to-find health foods. If you have a $200 investment and you're a resident you can become an owner. This idea came about from the opening of Our Community Place. Which is the Little Grill's new home. Sam Nickels, co-chair of the store wants his Food co-op to be about the “community, people and health. It's not about the money.”
...I think it's great that my area is getting more community oriented/involved. It is hard to find good, healthy foods anymore. Yes there are organic markets here and there, but my guess is that most of them aren't opperated by/involving the community in which it inhabits. And I hope that unlike when everyone else says "it's not about the money" that this time it could possiably be true.
**Do you have any community stores w/ locally grown products in your area? It's that a common or uncommon thing to see in your area?
