So Patch Adams was on the USA network these past few days and I decided to check out his web site about the Gesundheit! Institute.
Their Institute was found on the basis of
1) No charge for healthcare (no bartering either)
2) Staff and doctors would work for free
3) No rembursiment for the care
The creidts also stated that their was a waiting list for doctors who would leave their profressions to help Hunter Patch adams, M.D., see his project fall through.
I think something like this would be absolutely brilliant. A lot of people in the United States can afford healthcare, however, with the costs of co-pays, insurance, ambulance rides, etc. the price becomes overwhelming for most house holds.
My question is if will we ever see something like this in the United States? Or will the idea of free healthcare prove to just be a dream?

How would they gather an effective team of doctors and nurses who would be willing to work for free?
I'm sorry! I forget to mention this, I just added it.
Toward the end of the movie, the credits read that there was a waiting list of doctors and nurses that would leave their profession to work for Patch.
Is this the same Patch Adams that the movie (with Robin Williams) was based upon?

Yes
I dont think this would ever happen in the US and if it did, people would possibly receive sub-par care. I would love to see a universal health care plan here to combat the healthcare crisis.
American's simply arnt that giving. Or else it probaly would have already happened.
i agree with you. he graduated med school in the 70's and it's already 2007.
