Only this fall scientists declared that Pluto isnt a planet. What kind of insnaity is that? It has been a planet for a number of years, and then "bam" one day some scientist says that it isnt. Why change the planets then. We as kids memorized our planets through this saying: "My Very Educated Mom Just Served Us Nine Pizzas"
I really dont understand why Pluto should all of a sudden not be declared as a planet. Just imagine if someone would decide that earth isnt a plane. What would happen to us. I know its not realistic because earth is so big, but its a good example.
I for one know that to me Pluto will always be a planet!

That claim has been around for a long time; I remember building a solarsystem when I was in 5th grade, and before I reached high school I had learned that Pluto was no longer considered a planet, but a dual satellite.
There were several reasons for this new categorization. First, what they had considered to be Pluto's moon, is nearly half the size of Pluto; something that is unheard of. Pluto's gravitational field is not strong enough to hold a moon of that size. They also discovered that this satellite did not revolve around Pluto as other moons do for other planets.
Also, while the rest of the solar system follows a very linear revolution pattern around the Sun, Pluto is way off skew. Do you remember any of the charts of the solar system? Pluto's pattern is almost always off by about 45 degrees or so.
These new discoveries shouldn't upset you. Just think of how many things we "knew" way back when. People were taught for centuries that the Earth was flat and that the stars revolved around the Earth, and then in the blink of an eye someone discovered that these were not true.

I think that everyone on earth would have a mid-galaxy crisis if we found out that we weren't living on a planet. maybe we'd all pack up and move to the moon. Or would it even be a moon? oh goodness.
I think it all depends on how people look at the issue. Clearly for scientists it's easier understand than for regular people.
