“Give me your tired poor and hungry…” so proclaims the Statue of Liberty, which at one point welcomed immigrants. Times have changed the United States is no longer the same country it use to be. Yet the United States still symbolizes hope for many people. Hope for a new life, hope for economic success, hope for the future. Illegal immigrants have the right to live in America, because the U.S is the land of opportunities If your life was doomed to be one of misery and poverty, would you not change it if you could? What would you do in order to provide the basic necessitates for your family? Would you cross a desert in the middle of the summer? These are the questions that illegal immigrants face. They are here to work in jobs that Americans do not want, often times working for minimum wage. Illegal immigrants deserve the chance to work for a better future. After all, is that, not what the U.S is about? We can try to close the border, we can put soldiers on patrol but will that work? No people will keep on coming to the United States in hopes of a better future. One of the founding principles in the constitution is the “pursuit of happiness.” That is the right of every human whether he or she is legal. The United States needs illegal immigrants in order to survive. What would happen if illegal immigrants disappeared? Who would pick our food, clean the bathrooms? Would the middle class do it? No of course not. Americans have turned to a new kind of prejudice, one that labels and forget the human face behind the label. “Illegal” “Illegal” everyone cries and then points the finger to those who cross the border in search of a better life. It easy to label and forget the story behind the label. Why should anyone care why these “illegals” are here? It easy to forget their stories. Their voice is not heard for they cannot vote; their hands cannot petition for instead they hold a hoe to work the fields. Stop and ask yourself for what reason would a person leave their motherland? In what circumstances would a parent allow their children to forget their native tongue? Yet it is not enough that illegal immigrants work at menial jobs and live in run down vicinity. Now Americans want to make criminals out of them. Enough! Look behind the stereotype and hear the story. The story of a human who searches for a better life. Listen to the anguish as they walk in the hot desert in order to reach the haven called America. Experience their pain after working in the fields at picking our food. Hear the accents as they try to learn English and yet fail. After doing all of this then maybe one decide what the right choice is. We are all humans with basic rights: the right to search for a better life, the right to pursue happiness. America should be proud that so many people look to her for a better life yet America is not. The United States is a melting pot of many races, beliefs and religions. Can’t America also be a melting pot of illegal immigrants and legal citizens? It is time to change and forget the old prejudices. Illegal immigrants are here it is time to embrace them and plan for a new America. An America without soldiers at its’ borders an America in which every human is welcomed.

But if they continued to let immagrants in there would be more over population. Only 1% of Americans are farmers... compared to old days.. now everything has to be mass produced because of over population.
