Obama clearly states in his "A More Perfect Union" speech that 221 years ago the Founding Fathers met, but did completely finish the basic ideas for what this great nation was founded upon. The most important incomplete idea, which would haunt our nation for hundreds of years, is that of racial discrimination. The underlying ideal of his speech is to explain to Americans of every race how they can accomplish bridging the gap between ethnic differenced. He also explains, in a seemingly delicate way, that Rev. Wright has his own opinions and beliefs about discrimination, like all other Americans, and that just because his are publicly made in Obama's home church does not mean that he (Obama) partially or even fully agrees with them, as most American's don't fully agree with other Americans. Obama clearly explains that the underlying reason for racial discrimination is ignorance and unwillingness to learn of each others past and present afflictions. He believes American's should not segregate themselves and have the mentality and audacity to think "Every man for himself", but rather to think that he could be helped if only he would help others. He believes the only way for America to achieve a more perfect union would be for every American to put aside their own selfish needs and wants, not just during an economic crisis, or after a natural disaster, or because someone is in a position of authority, but at all times, and be able to look to the person next to them and ask "Is there any way that I can truly help you out?" To create this ideal, but non-existent mentality that all man, woman, child, black, white, Latino, Jew, Christian, rich or poor were created equal in the eyes of God, and that it would not hurt us in any way, but only nit out nation close if we were to care and love for each other unconditionally.
I honestly believe that this is Obama’s underlying message and though I agree that this is a wonderful idea, it is impossible at least for the next 1,000 centuries. There are several points in his speech that I strongly disagreed with. Overall his idea is a sham, but also a total epiphany to me, by showed me that we ourselves and our selfish mentality (not the government, though they sure help) is a major cause of dissatisfaction and economic depression descending upon our once great nation. How could we honestly help ourselves through this?
